19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
