Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
