The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any major honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
